Olsen Reunion '09

Disclaimer: post contains a few pictures that some may find gruesome and sickening, consider yourself warned : )

This past weekend was the Olsen Family Reunion which means I got to go camping! this year my uncle Eric was in charge and he chose a campground up Fairview canyon at Gooseberry Resevoir. It was my weekend off so I luckily got to attend the whole thing.

My brothers, Mom, Ash, Jake and I went up after work on Thursday and got camp settled before heading off to the lake. I decided to get a week long fishing license this year so that I could actually fish if I wanted to instead of just sit on the sidelines and boy am I glad that I did. I caught a fish on my 2nd cast that afternoon! which was my first time catching a fish since I was a really little girl, and not only did I catch the fish I caught the biggest fish out of all my family. I was pretty proud of myself, however I would have caught nothing had it been for Taylor's amazing luck and teaching skills.

Then not only did I catch one fish, I caught two!! however, the fishing topic was a little touchy at this point with my bro in law who was having a hard time realizing i was out fishing him : )

We ended up leaving with 6 fish total, needless to say it was a good fishing trip for us. Taylor being the good luck charm for all of them, seriously anybody whose pole he touched or helped cast caught a fish, everyone but his own.

Day 2 brought some different festivities for us. I've been trying to convince my brothers to take me rabbit hunting for a while now, and when the camping trip got closer I tried to get them to bring their guns, which they ended up doing. We didn't go rabbit hunting by any means but we did go pot gut hunting which turned out to be way fun and from what they said much easier than rabbits. Taylor may have not had any luck fishing the day before but he made up for it hunting, getting both pot gut kills of the morning. The only thing I got close to hitting was two birds, way better target for me I guess.

Fishing turned out to be unsuccessful for everyone that day. However the remaining extended family came up that night including: grandma, my Aunt Janet from Texas, Aunt Georgia and her family from California(which is always so good to see them, the twins are so big now!), also Uncle Michael and all his kids came up that night, including the two spouses.

I must admit I really missed my cousing Lyle this camping trip. Lyle is currently serving a mission in Finland and he has always been my buddy at all the Olsen family get togethers and it was weird to not have him around this year. good news is he should be home in time to come next summer : )

Day 3 found some of the crew in search for a hike. My uncle Eric said he knew where we could hike to a stream off of Skyline drive so we loaded up the trucks and off we went. When we got to our destination we discovered there was no trail so we took off down the mountain on a wild goose chase blazing our own trail trough tall bushes/grass/wildflowers/oak trees with the dads tipping over dead trees on our way down. Finally, we found the stream.

We got back to camp just in time for the BBQ for my Grandma Olsen's B-day Party who turns the big 80 next week. Happy Birthday Grandma!

All in all it was a great reunion! I had so much fun and love being around my family. It was such a nice break to get away from reality as well as not being on my phone once the whole weekend haha. ahhh I love camping! now it's back to the real world of work : (
