so long. farewell.

Jacqui Shields is now(and will be for the next 18 months) officially Sister Shields, for tomorrow she enters the MTC. Crazy? very much so.

I've known this day was coming ever since this summer when she decided she was going, I just didn't think this day would come so soon!! I've never been one that's good at saying goodbye's, sheesh I used to cry every time I left my family after being there for a weekend. However, after years of practice of having to say these temporary goodbye's but also permanent goodbye's through my work I've gotten a little better at them. Hence why I thought I'd be ready and better at sending off a best friend on a mission, but I've failed therefore tonight this is what comes to mind...

Dear Sister Shields,
Despite how proud of you I am, I really miss you and you've really only been set apart for a few hours. I think it's the fact that I can't text you anyday anymore, that I don't have my "therapist" to call and consult on all my crazy issues, and random breakdowns seeing as how your the one who seems to get those kind of breakdowns best. I hate that I can't run across the hall into your room at any given moment like I used to, and our random hysterical adventures that distracted me from my homework and stress. I've loved all our deep conversations, toilet times, dance parties, walk-offs, practical jokes, drives, jam sessions, and even our night time paranoia stories. To be honest Cedar isn't the same without you. I believe you leaving finally hit tonight as I read your facebook goodbye, and I suddenly realized that you're not going to be in Provo when I come home for next Christmas, and the next time I see you I will no longer be a college student and might not even be living in Utah. Craziness. Oh boy how our friendship's going to change over the next 18 months!! Don't worry I'm going to write and update you on everything I can! Grey's being number 1 priority of course, but also my cowboy adventures, final semester of nursing school, as well as when I enter the real world this summer. In return I expect to hear all about the people's lives you're blessing and pictures of your living conditions, companions, cute missionary outfits : ), as well as the people. It's going to be great I know it!!
don't be surprised if this next month you happen to see my car doing repetitive drives around the MTC, or if I tend to be hanging around the temple grounds a little more than I normally would. oh and by the way I plan on keeping all the rules while you're gone that we previously established, no ring, no husband, no babies, etc.. PROMISE. Well anywho..I miss you. Really, a LOT!! good luck, the people of Chile are so lucky to have you, make sure to tell them how blessed they are that we're sharing you with them! finally be safe and careful, more careful than normal because you're personal nurse isn't closeby anymore.
Love you so much!
Sincerely, Cal.
ps. you rocked your farewell, your talk was excellent and definately showed up the other 2 missionaries!

The Cedarians reunited at the farewell : )
The ladies & baby olivia

Don't get me wrong I'm all for missionaries, just turns out that it's a lot harder to send one off than I thought it would be. I get to do it all over again with Taylor leaving in January. Happy Missionary Work!!

Days of thanks 2010

this year was my first thanksgiving home in 3 years, I've usually been stuck in Cedar for this holiday working so that way I'd make it home for Christmas, but this year I not only got to come home for Thanksgiving I got to come home for 10 days. yup it's been AWESOME!!

Harry Potter 7,great thanksgiving dinner & games with the olsen fam, lounging around the house hanging out with the fam, food, being in my sweats 96% of the time, soaking up kezy bath times, food, early bedtimes, guitar jamming and treats with Candice, double date with the fun newlyweds, UVU basketball appearance, olsen family Christmas party, food, little brother Taylor going through the temple, eating, massage time, pedicure, shopping, parents birthday dinner, hot chocolate, cousin baby shower, the so called blizzard of 2010 panic attack, flu shot, decorating the house for Christmas, more food and eating, christmas music and movies, and most recently today, kobe's mission farewell.
See, this 10 day break has been FABULOUS! I've loved it and can't believe it's back to the grind tomorrow. not fun! At least I have these fabulous pictures to remember the goodness...

Grateful for #4.

I am Grateful for....
The Gospel.
For the knowledge that someone honestly knows me better than I know myself.
The peace it brings in knowing that everything will work out for MY good.
For the grace given through love to have the chance to return one day.
To the power in the gospel to heal sick, bless lives, and seal families forever.
For guidance given on decisions I can't make alone.
& To truly never be alone.
What are you grateful for???

mi pappa.

Everyone's got someone that they'd refer to as a hero figure in their life, or possibly even famous people that they look up to in life. I however chose more personable people to look up to in my life as my role models and they are my parents, specifically today my dad.

Allow me to fill you in on a little secret about me....just the word dad or talking about him makes me cry. I have so much respect for him, and look up to him as such a great example.

Dad everyday you get up and go to a job that you dislike at hours when no one should even be thinking about getting up yet, but you do it for all of us, you start early and end late everyday. Even when you're not at work you are always thinking of others, attending every one's events, being there for all the ward members, you're one of the first ones to the church on Sunday's and the last ones to leave. You go without sleep, and even skip meals to make sure that everyone else's needs are met first. You never whine, you never complain, you never hold grudges, you never judge. Me on the other hand... I'm sorry I complain so much because I don't have it as bad. Thanks for teaching me the concept of "It could always be worse".

Dad you sacrifice so much for us kids and mom and I want you to know that I truly appreciate all you do, I seriously couldn't be where I'm at today without you and I hope one day I can make you proud and make all the sacrificing worth it for you. Thank you for teaching me qualities that are important in a man and for reminding me when I get caught up in worldly affairs what really matters. I'll never forget all the thoughtful/little things you've done and continue to do.

I love you so much dad. thanks again for everything.

blah...blah...blah

on my mind today....
1. school sucks! just when I think I'm ahead I've somehow gotten "behind" again. It's never ending and I'm tired of papers in APA format.

2. My new tree is really hard to turn. I'm really bad at just forgetting the old leaves

3. I head home for Thanksgiving next Friday. why is this so exciting? this will be my first thanksgiving in 3 years, cause I've had to work the past three. I get to be home for 10 days and I can't freakin wait.

4. We finally got our paperwork today to submit our preceptor request for next semester. Stressful!! I have 4(technically 5 options) and I don't know what I'm supposed to do... well I know what I gotta do for the paperwork but I don't know where to go. freakin out!!

5. I'm registered for my last semester of college. I attended my last home football game of my college career last weekend. The walls of adulthood and growing up and entering the real world are closing in and to say I'm feeling claustrophobic would be an understatement.

6. I'm tired of being the relationship/dating/never marrying joke. It's not fun or funny for me anymore. I don't appreciate it so to put it kindly, stop.

7. Basketball season started and I love it. isn't it crazy how some things bring back the fondest memories?! although I do love the fact my tall, dark and handsome Aussie man isn't a memory yet and is still currently playing : )

8. i miss my family so much. crazy how being the only one(besides Jacob) in my family not living at home has made me jealous and wanna be home.

9. Life works out for all crazy reasons, I still laugh about the reasons that brought me to SUU and yet everyday I'm thankful for them and despite recent frustrations I'm grateful for where I'm at today.

10. Nursing school is tough!! (can I whine and complain about school anymore?!?!) someday's I feel I can't do it anymore or can't handle it and then I talk to my momma. thanks for being the continual encouragement and getting me through this. love you so much. It's amazing how much the words, "I'm proud of you" can mean on a really rough day, or lately week, months, etc...

aw. I feel better now.
